Prairie Organics  brings leading researchers together with producers because we believe that the best research is inspired by real world problems. If you are a researcher or a farmer with on-farm research results to share, we want to hear from you. 

We invite submissions from all disciplines for a scientific poster session to be held in conjunction with Prairie Organics: Think Whole Farm 2020 in Brandon, Manitoba. The poster session is an opportunity for scientists working on projects relevant to organic production in the Prairie to present results to producers and researchers working in this region.

Posters should be relevant to organic grain, oilseed, pulse, vegetable and livestock production in the Prairie region. We also welcome topics on economics and other areas of social science. 

Possible topics appropriate for posters submissions include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Organic plant breeding initiatives

  • Perennial grains

  • Designing optimal crop rotations

  • Intercropping

  • Seeding rates for organic crop production

  • Weed management in an organic system

  • Building fertility in an organic system

  • Insect management in an organic system

  • Disease management in an organic system

  • Cultivation, seeding and harvest equipment

  • Green energy solutions for farming

  • Organic production in a changing climate

  • Cover crops

  • Soil health

  • Improving soil and farm biological diversity

  • Livestock grazing

  • Livestock health

  • Other issues in organic livestock production

  • Crop-livestock integration

  • Cost of production of organic crops and livestock

  • Farm business management

  • Other relevant social science topics

All submissions will be reviewed by our committee. Abstracts for approved posters will be included on the conference website. Abstracts must be original, unpublished work and must not exceed 500 words, including references.

Submit your abstract in Microsoft Word format by the deadline below.

Presentations will be in a digital format (no printing required). Presentations should be in Microsoft PowerPoint. Presenters should ensure that Methods, Results and Discussion can be presented in 10 minutes or less. Authors must be available to present their posters to conference attendees between 3:15 and 5:00 PM on February 8, 2022. 

Presenters must be prepared to do a 2-minute poster pitch on the main stage during the day of February 8 and be on hand for 1.5 hours to present their posters on a monitor, possibly multiple times, throughout the session beginning at 3:15 PM.

Presenters will have the option to present at the in-person event or remotely since Prairie Organics is a hybrid event.
